KUINA/who is she
Kuina is a character from the manga ONE PIECE. Kuina makes a brief appearence in the first tankoubon.. she is a character
from Zoro's past, namely the daughter of the swordmaster whom Zoro was studying under.
Kuina is gifted at swordplay and considered the best student at the dojo. Because of this, Zoro challenged her
constantly. Out of 2000 duels they had, she won all of them.
For the 2001st duel, they fought it out using real swords (instead of bamboo practice swords). She won that duel as well..
Zoro was disappointed that he lost. But she said she was even more disappointed than him. She revealed that she has a similar dream
as Zoro, to be the greatest swordsman in the world. But she says HER dream can never be true, since she is a woman and she
will lose her strength as she ages.
Her father told this to her and those words crushed her dream. She cried, allowing Zoro to see how weak she was.
But Zoro rebutted her words, saying he is the bigger fool. If women were that weak later on, then why is he trying so hard
to excel against her?
Later that night, they made a promise. They will both strive for the same dream; to be the greatest. The future will reveal
who shall reach that pinnacle first.
But Kuina will not be able to keep to the promise. The next day, she died of an accidental fall down the stairs.
Because she is unable to reach the dream, Zoro promised to fulfill it for himself and her as well. He vowed this on her sword. Till
this day, he carries her sword with him.
REASONS/why the love?
Because Kuina is a great character! She played an important role in Zoro's life and this pretty much made me like her in
the first place. She is also a strong character (especially for a girl her age), even though she suffered an episode of self-doubt back then... (thank
you Zoro for getting her back on track!)
